INFN: National Institute for Nuclear Physics in Frascati.

Founded in 1951, the INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare - National Institute for Nuclear Physics) has the purpose to continue and develop the scientific tradition begun in the 1930s with Enrico Fermi and his school.
The LNF (Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati - Frascati National Laboratories), located near our hotel, date back to 1955, when the INFN decided to build the first italian accelerator: the electrosynchrotron.
The LNF also house the DAFNE particle accelerator, that, before the LHC in Geneva was activated, was the only one of its kind to be active in Europe.

The Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics), is the Italian institute that carries out scientific research in the field of nuclear physics, sub-nuclear and astroparticle, and develops the technology needed for the activities in those areas. The Office works in connection with italian universities and it promotes the international collaboration.

The institute was born the 08th of August, 1951 thaks to a group of researchers from the universities of Padua, Rome, Milan and Turin. They group and move in order to continue the work of Enrico Fermi and his school on the nuclear physics.

The Institute rose to the forefront in the second half of the 50es for the construction of the first Italian electron accelerator

(elettrosincrotone), made in the beautiful town of Frascati, a few Km to Rome, and it is here that the first Laboratory of the institute was born. In the meantime, INFN starts its participation in CERN (European for Nuclear Research in Geneva) activities.

The INFN bases its organization on a structure made up of sections, groups and laboratories. The 4 laboratories are those of Catania (National Laboratories of the South, LNS), Frascati (National Laboratories of Frascati, LNF), L'Aquila (Gran Sasso National Laboratories, LNGS) and Legnaro (National Laboratories of Legnaro, LNL).

The National Laboratories of Frascati (LNF) host the well-known DAFNE (DAFNE) electron and positron collider (Double Annular F Factory for Nice Experiments), the first to be activated in Europe founded in 1955, deal with particle physics and it was was there that was built the first Italian particle accelerator (the 1.1 GeV electrosynchrotron).
Later the rings for the collision of the protons and electrons were developped: Adone ring was born, and it became later, the new DAFNE ring that is still working.
LNF performs a prolific interaction and exchange with the laboratories of Cern and the laboratories of the United States.
