Frascati, in addition to being a centre of great tourist interest, is also of considerable importance as a centre for science and research. Several research centres are in fact distributed on the territory of Frascati:

INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare - National Institute of Nuclear Physics) promotes, coordinates and carries out experimental and theoretical research in nuclear physics, elementary particles and their basic interactions. Founded in 1951, at present it consists of 19 structures, located in the major Italian Universities, and 4 National Laboratories that closely collaborate with Universities and national and international Research Institutes.

ENEA (Ente Nazionale per le Nuove Tecnologie, l'Energia e l'Ambiente - National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) is the greatest Italian Centre dedicated to the research and experimentation on controlled nuclear fusion, both magnetically confined and inertial. ESA (European Space Agency) - ESRIN, known as the "ESA (European Space Agency) Centre for Earth Observation", is one of the five ESA specialised centres situated in Europe. Located in Frascati, a small town south of Rome in Italy, ESRIN was established in 1966 and first began acquiring data from environmental satellites in the 1970s.

CNR (Centro Nazionale di Ricerca - National Research Council) is an Italian public organization. Its duty is to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research activities in the main sectors of knowledge growth and of its applications for the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country.

University of Tor Vergata, Rome's second university, is located about one kilometre from Frascati. Together with the Hospital Tor Vergata, it is easily accessible via the new roads opened for the Jubilee in Rome, in 2000.
