Frascati - Villa Aldobrandini

This is the biggest Villa in Frascati just above Piazza Roma that shows off its beauty, it was built in 1598 by Giacomo Della Porta, terminated by Carlo Moderno and Giovanni Fontana. The Villa had the best changes to its architectural stucturemade by the several noble families between the late sixteenth century and the mid eighteenth century, when in 1837 the villa became the property of the Aldobrandini Family who carried out spectacular changes to the frontspiece that once looked like the Cathedral , becoming of triangular shape as we know it today and of neoclassical style. One of the Villa’s most famous part is the “Teatro delle acque”( the Nynphaeum of the waters). The villa is in perfect condition today and still keeps its paintings by Cavalier d’Arpino and Domenichino, who decorated the room called Sala d’Apollo. The Gardens are a important souvenir from the architecture of green gardens during seventeenth century. Between the main building and the Nymphaeum of the Waters, an avenue takes place on the side of the italian style garden shadowed by cider trees and passing by a mask shape rock sculpture looking like those by Bomarzo. Both the Nymphaeum of the waters and the italian gardens are open to the public.
